His artistic work is built around memory, place, and in particular working with communities and their collective memories. Having spent time in the village with survivors and bereaved parents, Shimon Attie has created artwork that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people of Aberfan. His work does not focus solely upon the tragedy of the past but looks towards the future.
